The points system will be used to determine which entrants qualify for the Championship and which angler receives the coveted "Angler Of the Year" award.
A top three finish in any IFPA tournament will qualify an entrant to an invitation to the Championship, regardless of total points.
Points will only be awarded at the regular season qualifying events, not at the championship.
The "Angler Of the Year" (AOY) award will be awarded to the entrant with the most points at the end of the IFPA tournament season based on the top points from up to four tournaments. In the event of a points tie, the AOY will be presented to the entrant who has the highest place at the championship. In the event that one of the entrants in the tie is unable to fish in the championship, that entrant will forfeit their chance to win the AOY.
Points will be based on the entrants weight by removing the decimal point from the total weight of fish weighed in. As an example Bob and Joe weigh in a total weight of 4.97lbs, they would each recieve 497 points.
Points will be awarded in this manner regardless of the number of entries.
Points will be awarded as individual points for all entrants whether they are competing as a team or as an individual.
As an example; Bob and Joe fish three tournaments as a team, they weigh in 2.50lbs at each tornament and have earned a total of 750 points each (250 points per tournament). On the fourth tournament, Joe is unable to participate and Bob chooses to fish by himself and weighs in another 2.50lb catch. Bob would receive an additional 250 points for that win which would give him a total of 1000 points, while Joe would still have 750 points.
As far as the Championship is concerned, all qualifying anglers will be invited as individuals, based on their individual points. Qualified anglers may enter the championship as a team, provided their teammate has also secured enough qualifying points to be invited.
